MegaCon Day 1
So NERO® Central Florida got a booth at MegaCon this year, and we were drafted to assist them. This task included primarily either reffing fights or fighting participants in One-on-One match-ups using the chatper's boffer weapons. Slith is well bruised from today and tomorrow I'm going to have an interesting time eating. If you go, look for the person with a green muzzle sticking off the face. Slith will be a Lion Sarr (Any anthro cat in NERO® is a Sarr; while the Lizard and all other non-"mythical" anthros are considered part of the Scavengers). If you're going to be attending, message here before .. umm.. 7 AM? Yeah.. we've gotta leave earlyish. Slith & t'sChillin Current Mood: exhausted | | Wednesday, March 5th, 2008 | | 7:25 am |

I4 smoke
The smoke is so thick at home, 17+ miles from the burn, that many parts of the road that, at times, we can't even see ahead 8 feet, with any combination of lights. | | Tuesday, January 8th, 2008 | | 10:16 pm |
December, Scalloped. Beginning:Lets see, what happened. Well, we went on a cruise, despite the lack of well-wishers to the posts made as we got ready to set sail. It had its ups and downs (no, I don't mean the water was that choppy). Good: Lots of free food on the ship, lots of activities, Disc Golf tournament happened (we're told that if the tournament hadn't come on board, we'd've skipped the private island; the water conditions were borderline of being able to set the lil tender boats alongside to get on/off the ship/island) & Slith got second in his division (a first for him to place where he gets a prize), fun room attendant (a great improvement over last year), and always-ready-to-please maître d' & assistant waiters, we won lots of other little things, and general funstuff (Lots of little interesting tidbits, but this is a long post already). Bad: Our table waiter was not attentive and otherwise unpleasant (to the point we had a new waiter on the last night); we couldn't afford any photos; the one thing we did buy to remember the cruise, the DVD, was a waste of money (skimped out on stuff on the island; didn't use footage where t & the shoulder dragon wearing life vest was taken; some of the 'filler' stuff used repetitive verbiage, imagery, or both; didn't use even half of the disc space); and some of the on-ship purchases didn't show up on our account until just before midnight of the last night we were staying on the ship (very inconvenient when paying CASH ONLY with no credit cards on hand or checkbooks to bounce [these were not brought on board for a reason!]) Late:t'sC's bday occurred with little given, upon which night, after work, Slith's work's holiday party was hosted. We went; we tried to eat and were told to go to the other (far) end of the doubled-up XL ballroom, got portions on plates smaller than that which you would put toast on in the morning (if you had plates that size from the TV commercials). However, there was live music of a decent quality, most of the food was tasty, if often obscure or minuscule, lots of games outside the ballroom and 2 free bar-service drinks per person! That included everything from soda to booze; only thing that was free was hot cocoa, hot tea, and coffee. Not long after the rest of the food stations opened up than our seats were taken by others wanting to sit at our table. It was way too crowded for those in our party so we boogied out, for there was yet work the next day. A few days later the commercialized day advertising the wrong day as the birthday of someone long dead occurred, and a couple more gifts befell upon t's while Slith got enough requiring more than 2 arms; food was scrumptious, though! End:Then came the last moments of the year! We enjoyed ourselves at a DVC resort 12/31/2006 for the year-end festivities and so we made arrangements to return. Our luck got us a room in the building adjacent to primary party, though our window faced away from the fireworks. More food was begotten, t's won a 3D puzzle out of a $1 game of Bingo, and fireworks were enjoyed. t'sC insists the display was more spectacular last year, though. After this, the organizers realized they still had one prize bag to give out for the night and said they'd ask 1 trivia question. Slith near broke his knuckles when he shot his hand up before the guy finished his question regarding the opening day of WDW's MK, which Slith had attended in his youth. And now 2008 continues with us at home. …… Did you ask, "Back to normal?" Normal!? Haa! Where have you been? - t's & Slith | | Monday, December 3rd, 2007 | | 4:10 pm |

T-Minus 37.8 hrs
Egads, a post! Slith has been being worked obscene hours and t's has been on the floor for a couple of weeks now in the new department: somewhat less challenging in viewing the mechanics of the customer's concerns and substantially more challenging in the obscene non-integration and common downtime of the systems required to help the customers infinitely more numerous (if drastically more simple) products. But that is aside now (well, Slith has one more day of work). In 37¼ hours, we depart to Port Canaveral to intercept the Royal Caribbean ship, Sovereign of the Seas not due to return until Friday. This is the second year for the Disc Golf Cruise; same itinerary, though the tournament set-up is slightly different: 1 long [18-27 hole] round rather than 2 regular rounds). We will try to seek out again the deals at Nassau with free schtuff, though may do more about locally than last time, funds permitting. Funds is an issue, though: we again will not have much money to spend on our vacation, despite our efforts. Ah, well. It is at least away, soon. Time to continue packing, almost. | | Sunday, November 4th, 2007 | | 5:01 pm |
You may all gasp: An update
t's here. For those of you who didn't already know, my department is closing in, oh, 6 days now; We were notified this would occur a few months back. I was told about a month ago my training would start until the 12th. Now, come this past Thursday (1st), I'm told I start a week early, this Monday, at 8. This is a problem. Some of you already have seen my rant on this county's excuse for a bus system. If you hadn't, by the words I just used a moment ago, you can correctly assume the buses here simply suck: They don't run on Sundays or holidays, they have shorter hours on Saturdays, they don't run often enough, and the hours during the week aren't long enough to begin with, and they have a very limited service area compared to the size of the county; not to mention that the nearest bus stop is 5 miles from me, it takes 3 buses to get to work, and I can never get in a full 7.5 hrs if I have to bus all the way back home. The preceding limits my guaranteed availability to: 9:15-4:50 M-F, 10:15-3:50 Saturday. How does this make training tomorrow a problem? The training schedule options between this & next week are, respectively, 8-4 & 4-Midnight. My project manager is a good guy, but all he could do with the training coordinator is get the trainer not to mark me off for missing over an hour of class (rather than the 10-20 min I would from just how long it takes to get from the bus & how late it is in its run). Thankfully, on some days, I can get a ride to the 3rd bus to get there an hour earlier, but this is in no way guaranteed. Furthermore I liked the program I had been working on and do not look forward to this one. I will, however, trudge on; but only for now. I am hoping, just hoping, I can get everything together and get into school for the Winter session. There's a catch to this though: The only real college "local" and on the bus route, doesn't impress me, and the bus route limitations will still make this an extreme pain if not impossibility; not to mention they don't have any courses that would do me any good except maybe for getting credits for the basics. There are 5 locals that I think I may consider, though: Orlando - 2 major campuses and other technical colleges on a multi-county bus system that actually runs often enough that I could likely do any classes so long as I can keep awake for the bus trip & do work on the bus; I've also been living in Florida long enough to get state-resident discounts and am not too far from Slith. Columbus (O.) - OSU, DeVry, and possibly other options, presumably decent bus system; near my mother (whom I get along with fine), though she probably doesn't have room for me, but has gotten me in talks with the local DeVry via email. Clarion (Penn.) - Near several good friends, one willing to help me for at least a little bit with lodging. Questionable on transportation, though; however, Clarion U has some decent programs and one of those friends attends & talks well enough of it. Program offerings online are satisfactory; with a little help from a coordinator, should be able to get the right one figured out. (I enjoy too many different aspects of various computer technologies, applications, systems, etc) Madison (Wisc.) - Near another friend who would help me with lodging (with an asterisk about availability of that lodging); Fine metro & suburban public transportation system; decent offerings for schooling like Clarion. But, only the 1 friend whom I know, and again no guarantee for lodging. Suburbs of Los Angeles - Near my father, whom I don't get along with quite as well. Higher taxes, though more likely to get money from my paternal grandparents (they're a tad stingy and possessive; they said they'd help if I go to school out there, but... my bro is still in Cali and hasn't gotten any assistance from them). Metro is a bit of a convoluted mess, but I do have a variety of schooling options. Tarot wasn't too positive, though, for going this far west, though; although I have guaranteed lodging, the negatives may make it too uncomfortable, especially if I don't get the family backing suggested. I need to decide fast, but oy, the choices. I'm thinking it is going to end up a tossup between Orlando, Columbus, and Clarion, though (sorry, J.), but I need to get this done soon. I'm probably already out of luck for a good chunk of the various FAFSA-associated monies, submitting for the Winter rather the Summer session. Just an update for all. Yay or not; just, Oy. - t'sChillin | | Thursday, November 1st, 2007 | | 6:20 am |

Black & Brew and Hershey's to cool it off
Slith had to pay a bill out near where t's work today (pawn shop; most of the lay-away is stuff t's doesn't care for, anyhow), so after getting that out of the way, we went downtown to stop at a buffet place that seemed to be trying to mimic Sweet Tomatoes by it's icon and menu. However, no one would pick up the phone. As it turns out, once we found the street it was on, they had short summer hours. Thankfully, around the corner was another joint, though t's thought it was for coffee only, Black and Brew apparently was a bistro cafe (we had another choice, but we had a coupon-book on hand to help guide our decision; a locally printed Entertainment knockoff, though authorized for the coupons). So we ordered from the menu a hot turkey & roast beef & cheese with au jus, hold the onion. Despite t's missing it had swiss (t's can't normally stomach it), it was consumable and enjoyable. For desert, there was a Hershey's Icecreamery not 2 shops down and across the corner, for which we also had an coupon. Was yum. All & all, $17 spent for dinner & desert, including tips equaling more than 10% before discount. - t'sChillin & Slith Current Mood: full | | Sunday, May 27th, 2007 | | 7:51 am |
Activities Stuffs
Okay, so we missed posting about 2 events in the past few weeks that we attended, but we're posting now before our next 2 (over the next two days, today included!). I'll try to be somewhat brief before the mutant dust bunnies from Easter find me ( hmm, maybe I should claim that being why there've not been posts recently). So lets go in chronological order over our free (well, free at event-time) activities: - Several weeks ago we went to see a preview of the night-time showing of Blue Horizons, the dolphin show at Sea World. Our initial intended guests (we could take 2 more) had to cancel, so on a whim t thought of Drel down near where sie works and he was happy to go (though we couldn't think of a 2nd guest). We wanted dinner before attending, since all we'd get there would be fountain water and Shamu ice-cream bars, so we sought out a place called Harry's we had a coupon for, after the first place we intended to go to in downtown was closed. Well, a block from where the place was, we found a different Harry's (t knew it wasn't the one for the coupon), but we went in anyway. Their chicken fingers platter was huge (t wished sie'd selected that) and the rest was good stuff, too, though t was a touch unprepared for the kick of the basic spices they do (it was a New Orleans-themed restaurant). The dinner was good, the show was good (though they were still figuring out a few things on lighting and therefore one 5-10 second element was excluded) and we can't wait to see final productions starting this week when the park is open into the night.
- This past Thursday, Sea World let us in to see another preview, this time Shamu Rocks, the night-time Shamu show which this year includes a live guitarist. We got free ice-cream (a few more types this time) and a soda for our wait. They'd expected maybe 2-3k people to show, we probably had 5k, but there was some seating to spare (mostly in the Splash Zone, of course!). It was a touch loud for t, but not much plugging the ears. Slith's family were the guests and seemed to enjoy it, too. It was their final dress-rehearsal and was fantastic; even the calf was doing it's best in mimicking mama, and the adolescents were doing well too in their roles. There were even some new & exciting tricks. We're curious if these will be Shamu Rocks exclusives or if it'll make it into the regular Believe show.
- Two months ago, ticket sales opened for reserved seating at the Cypress Gardens amphitheater. On the second day of sales, the closest we could consecutive seats get was Row I, Section C (there were a few closer seats at the very ends, but likely poor visibility) for today's Weird Al concert. It starts in a few hours, but there's still about 2 hours until park open. Between open and concert, t plans on lots of Bumper Cars practice while Slith may join hir, or play in the waterpark area up in the back. This will be our second Al concert (first was at House of Blues at Downtown Disney during the Poodle Hat tour). We're definitely Al fans and can't wait to see what we have in store for us (muchless how they're doing seating control; we've not reserved for a concert here before, since anywhere behind the few rows of seats are free w/ admission). Yay for the only Al concert in central Florida being where we already have season passes (though not for concert seating). Now the question will be: Do we eat in the park for lunch, or walk across the street to the Ruby Tuesdays they built a couple months ago?
- Tomorrow we plan on heading up to Micky's Retreat to volunteer for another Disney Cast-and-family-only event. We're probably going to be carrying or pulling carts with various restocking supplies for whatever activities they're running. Gee, we thought they liked our parking job during Easter *shrug.*
Well that's it for now *dodges mutant dust bunny* Hopefully we also get a chance to see some of the exciting movies hitting theaters this season. - t'sChillin & Slith Current Mood: excited | | Sunday, April 29th, 2007 | | 2:30 pm |
Shuttle and Swim
Today Slith took t to the Kennedy Space Center for a few hours. We observed the rocket garden, took the robots in space tour, and had lunch with Pogue, an astronaut from Apollo (as support) and spent time on SkyLab. After lunch we took the bus tour to see one of the 3 remaining Saturn V rockets and say modules for the ISS under various stages of construction. We then drove a few miles south to enjoy the surf and a small cup of ice cream before we started homeward, still uncertain of what for dinner. - Slith & t'sChillin, via cell | | Sunday, April 1st, 2007 | | 8:57 am |
Busy Weekend: Updated Employment, and Parking, and Ren Fair, (and movie,) oh my! · Employment, Thursday - Slith just got a fin-up from Shamu for running rides, parking, merchandise, and maybe even costumes! Training starts next Friday. · Parking, Saturday - how do you get into Disney's private employees only party, including paying $75 for $325-350 list-worth of Disney merchandise? You spend 3.5 hours straight directing parking for your first time with minimal experienced assistance. Oh, we were also each given 1 meal ticket worth $5.
· Ren Fair (and movie), Sunday - Last weekend when we went to Busch Gardens, we saw that MOSI (Musium of Science and Industry) was hosting a Ren Fair. today was the last day and we have a depressed kitty to cheer up. After it closes, the plan is to hit a theater for TMNT. With luck, we may run into a friend from up north who is making a suprise visit to the area (pending on his initial plans falling through. Either way we hope he enjoys his stay!)
Oh, sorry about the holiday-themed dust bunnies running about. Had to unbury since the last post.. *t's dodges the 22' dust rabbit Slith formed* - t'sChillin & Slith via cell
Update : Sunday night: Too tired to do a movie! We saw two complete performances by Christoph the Insultor, the last being the last one of the festival, and as such his most insulting. t sifted through stones while Jori & Slith wandered and made expensive purchases (t knew sie should've held onto the wallets!) and sifted for the better part of 2 hours, making for 4-6 sandwich bags full of semi-precious stones & minerals (and, um, zap until they were on the ground).
Update 2 (though posted w/ First Update; yay for forgetting to send): Monday night: Drove around finding a showing of TMNT that was close enough after t was off from work. The nearest theatre had just started and Slith doesn't like even missing the previews >..< .. this was at 7:10. We found the next closest theatre didn't start it's last show until 9:40 (the closest's last showing was 7:00) so we drove there, and on the way stopped at a relatively new restaurant. The decor suggested slightly-overpriced winghouse & bar, but the prices were decent and food and sauces delicious. We hung around the mall where the theatre was at for a short while waiting for time to approach to at least seat. Overall we (Slith, t's, & Typhon) enjoyed the movie. Then it was home and pretty much hit the bed (or computer, but those tend to be more fragile & expensive to hit). - t's & Slith

Whaddaweekend
Friday morning was a revisit of But, this is Florida complete with 20 minutes to defrost the windshield for any visibility (another 10 for full defrost), and a hose (not even 300 feet long) which, at full water pressure, dribbled maybe a half-ounce per second. After such delays we finally made our way to the State Fair again, this time taking a friend who lived actually not even a couple of miles from the fairgrounds and had a very tiring & full day. At the fair we stopped in the exhibit/expose area to make purchases we'd considered (though not all of it was there) last week, including a wall hanging with a Celctic knotted cross (do Not make assumptions) & a dragon (the main feature of the purchase), a 2-for-less-than-the-price-of-1 purchase of a grilling platform that cuts fats, and such but helps retain or even add flavor while doing so and can be used with any cooking surface (and we got a couple of discount wear-resistant utensils with'm), and a SodaClub Edition 1® (after oogling over them for a couple of years) with 3 big bottles and the basic generic Family Pack. After this, we wandered to and fro along the midway and fairgrounds, managing to keep spending to the minimum, and only walking away with 1 plush thanks to t's frugalness (with excuse to save money for Sunday's prospective venture back to the fair). Lunch for 3 was done just off the midway for $6 in burgers (dollar per), $6 in fries (a bucket from around the corner), and $6 in sodas (20 oz. Dr Peppers; not a bad fair price for those, per fairpeople). We did the Circus, which had been revised &/or improved &/or replaced by a much better performance than previous years, with the best acts being last 2: first of these a tight-rope artist whom did a fantastic feigning of most of his wiggles and wobbles or partial falls (with only 1 that I'm not sure of being faked), and last a Motocycle "Ball of Death" with 1 rider by himself, 1 rider with 2 showgirls, 2 riders by themselves, and finally 3 riders by themselves. There rest of the acts weren't half bad, either, but those stood out. Slith had seen much "Ball of Death" but never with 3 riders. Thus more wandering ensued through the midway and the expo with a 7:00 stop at the Agro center which was selling $2.00 food items and $1.00 drinks; some of the items were on special so we managed to fill ourselves with hot stew or hot sandwich, a pudding, and a drink, and the total bill for us 3 was $11 even. We took a cute photo of the plush going after a share of the food while wearing t's hat. And then it was a rush to the other corner of the fairgrounds where the fireworks were being launched. The music was old, though. And I don't mean just old songs, I mean pretty old recordings of older songs; and the pyro guy just couldn't keep the booms to the tempo, though you could tell s/he was trying. It was decent, though no July 4th. We had planned on staying longer, but our local friend was getting tired and all the legs agreed. So we picked up our purchases that were being held (a SodaClub package is heavy, even if it is only 1 CO2 tank in it; that tank turned out to be larger than any we have for Paintball!). So we drop our friend off and thus everyone goes home to sleep. Sunday is not so crunchy to wake up to, thankfully, but still chilly and rather much blow-a-kite-away-with-the-kid-still-tied-t o-it windy. At some point in dropping off and the morning we'd decided to hand our remaining pre-purchased tickets to Slith's sister (whose kid wanted to go to today's "wrist-band" day (with unlimited rides for $20-25) and went off to the local Hard Rock casino, from which we'd gotten necklaces that got us $10 of free play with sign-up to the free Players Club. On Slith's first pull, he got $20-$30, so he cashed out as to have some pocketed, and put some money back into the machine, while t's, friend, and Typhon (who tagged along today, not scheduled for work) promptly lost all of our $10 on the adjacent machines, or at least to the point of cents less than the minimum play (as they were all Multi-Line minimums). Slith proceeded to get another big winner, including one of the rare (per the `lil old lady who sat down next to us) bonuses such that we ended up with an additional $80-$120. Not much more was gotten out of another $10 plus the small-cents tickets (they don't do cash-payout-from-machine around here) then $5 submitted to various machines, so we headed further into downtown a few miles for one of our favorite restaurants, Evos! We splurged a little, dropping almost $40 of the remaining $80-some of winnings, and enjoyed a fantastic healthy lunch. Jori was very pleased with the place. Due to some issues with Jori's roommates, instead of spending the rest of the day for videogames as we intended, we just dropped him off and headed home to enjoy our first SodaClub liter (Pete's Choice). After, this post is made, some Daytona is watched, and even after the post, some steaks will break in our new grilling accessories. - Slith & t'sChillin Current Mood: exhausted |
